noskoptsi

project

Noskoptsi is an interdisciplinary association of artists, whose work is based on ancient texts. The impetus for the creation of Noskoptsi was Godard's programmatic film "Goodbye to Language" (French: Adieu au langage), the title of which contains a linguistic play: in the French-speaking parts of Switzerland where it was shot, the word "adieu" can mean both goodbye and hello. The film became for us an expression of a new era, when text once again claims its right to be presented on an equal footing with all other forms of art.

It was important for us to find a language of "non-separation": the texts of ancient Greek philosophers are equally distant from each of the modern national cultures and in this sense are "alien" or "common," and therefore, against the backdrop of the new spread of nationalism, in this catastrophic situation of real war and wars of nationalist rhetoric, we choose the path of returning to art based on dialogue and logic, common to all European cultures.

Our goal is to resist reduction and move towards wholeness, complexity, capable of holding the world together.
